The Latest...

As hard as this is, Dad has been admitted to the hospital again.  He had a doctor appointment on Thursday and there his need for oxygen had increased, so they put him on a few liters.  They set him up with home health, but on the way home he started shaking and would not respond to my mom.  She turned around to go to the emergency room.  He did respond a little bit after she turned around.  In the emergency room a CT scan was done of his head and abdomen. Both of those came back clear.  He started to develop a fever and at this point decided it must be some type of infection and did a bunch of different cultures to try and figure out where the infection is and what to treat it with.  They admitted him back to the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit to watch him and try to figure things out.  Today the doctors decided to do an MRI of the brain.  The results of this are that he has a brain infection, they just do not know what type.  So the next step was a spinal tap.  The results of this are not to be expected until Monday, but in the meantime they are treating him with everything they possibly can to start getting rid of the infection before the results come back.  This is definitely not what we hoped for...obviously, but we are all praying hard that this goes away and that he can get back to himself as soon as possible.  He was doing so well on Tuesday at home.  He was walking around, eating more, as well as drinking ensure, and even playing the Wii.  I don't understand why these things have to happen, but as always I am praying my heart out that everything turns out well and that he can be happy and healthy again.
