Dad

So I really should be in the living room, dining room and kitchen mopping my floors, but why would I want to do that this late at night?  So I decided to blog instead and give an update on my Dad.  I hope this will help to answer questions anyone may have and help to understand what is going.  Not that I understand what is going on, but such is life sometimes.  Things are constantly changing so I will update as we find things out.  For now the doctors checked out Dad's scan last week and decided that he has not responded much to this last dose of chemo that he received. After discussion they decided to add radiation therapy into the mix.  So the plan is as follows: October 7th he will start taking a medicine to protect his thyroid from the radiation as it is pretty harmful to the thyroid.  The 8th he will start a test dose of the radiation which is called Bexxar.  On October 12th he will have a gamma scan and on October 14th he will have a gamma scan.  October 15th he will start the real dose of Bexxar.  At this time there will be special precautions, such as no one to stand within 6 feet of him, he should not be in the same room with anyone longer than 4 hours, and so forth.  Then on October 22nd the plan is to start the BEAM chemotherapy and on the 28th have the stem cell transplant.  2-4 weeks after his transplant the doctors would like to put him back on radiation for 2 weeks.  This is all very complicated, but like I said I will keep this updated and hopefully answer any questions that may arise!  I hate to see my Dad go through all of this, but as many of you know Dad is a fighter!
